When you buy your Smartlink MJ Card, you will pay a one-off charge of £1.50 for the card. There are two different types of Smartlink MJ Card - one for adults and one for children.
The standard Adult City Zone fare for each journey using Smartlink is £1.00 - a saving of 40p against the normal City Zone fare of £1.40.
So, for example, if you want to buy an Adult Smartlink MJ Card and 5 City Zone journeys, you will pay £6.50 - £1.50 for the card and £5.00 for the journeys. If you top up the following week with 5 more journeys you will pay just £5.00.

Smartlink Travel Card
If you travel around the Metro Operating Area a lot, then using your Smartlink Travel Card to store unlimited travel for a week or a month is probably the best option for you. The more you travel during each week or month, the more you save!
You can choose to add one week, two weeks or one month’s worth of unlimited travel to your card. A week’s travel is valid for 7 consecutive days from the date of first use (not purchase). A month’s travel is valid for a calendar month from the date of first use (for example, from 25th February to 24th March inclusive).
Once you start using your Travel Card, you can top up with a further week, two weeks or one calendar month.
When you top up your card, any additional days extend the validity of the card from that date e.g. if you have 3 days left on your card and you top up with a further 7 days, your Travel Card immediately becomes valid for 10 days from the date you top up, and not 3 days plus a further 7 days from the date of first use of newly purchased travel.

Hotlisting Your Card
After purchasing a new card you should make a note of your Smartlink Card number.
Your Smartlink Card number is printed along the front of the card and is also printed on all corresponding receipts issued.
The Smartlink Card number is needed to cancel your card if it is lost or stolen.
If your card is lost or stolen it can be cancelled or ‘hotlisted’. To hotlist a card, you must report the card lost or stolen immediately on Tel: 028 90 66 66 30, quoting your registration details and Smartlink Password.
It takes two working days before a hotlisted card becomes deactivated. Translink can then prevent unauthorised use of the card and a hotlisted card presented for travel will be confiscated. Hotlisted cards CANNOT be reactivated.
Translink CANNOT prevent the unauthorised use of lost or stolen Smartlink Cards until they have been reported by the user and hotlisting completed.
See terms and conditions for how to claim a refund on the remaining journeys or validity period on a hotlisted card.
