Going, Going, Going... Goldline
5 April 2005
Following a major revision of Translink’s flagship Goldline service, which included the introduction of 50 new coaches, passenger journeys travelling on Goldline’s 139 daily departures have jumped by 9% since April 2004.
“Our Goldline passengers are voting with their feet,” explained Translink’s Marketing Executive, Ciaran Rogan, “We are delighted that the changes we introduced have clearly appealed to our passengers, and brought about the increase in patronage figures.
“Service frequencies of between 20 and 30 minutes were introduced on the most popular routes, and with destinations across Northern Ireland, the revised Goldline service was the single most important network change in recent years, ahead of the introduction of Metro, and further enhancements are planned for later this year.
“Together with new and improved park and ride facilities across Northern Ireland, Goldline now offers car drivers a viable transport alternative. Whether catching up on work, current affairs, or even some extra moments of relaxation, time on board is time better spent,” he said.
Mr Rogan went on to explain how the enhanced Goldline service reinforces Translink’s commitment to achieving the objectives identified in the Northern Ireland Regional Transport Strategy.
“Alongside the introduction of Metro and our 23 new C3K trains, the new Goldline service is giving the Northern Ireland public much greater choice and access to a rejuvenated public transport network.
“Translink is determined to deliver a modern, sustainable, safe transportation system which benefits society, the economy and the environment and which actively contributes to social inclusion and everyone's quality of life.
“In addition, the Goldline fleet will also benefit from the introduction of more new coaches, as part of the £50 million investment in new vehicles announced in December 2004.” Mr Rogan concluded.
