Access Guides Launched

26 June 2001

Translink today officially launched their first integrated access guide, a new publication for people with a disability, which lists every bus, rail station and halt in Northern Ireland.

Translink's Managing Director Ted Hesketh explained, "This guide is designed to be a useful travel companion to assist all passengers wishing to use bus and rail services.  It has been developed in consultation with the Translink Disability Focus Groups.  There are many useful features in the publication with stations and halts listed alphabetically.  Passengers can also plan their journey, obtain information on buses and trains, wheelchair and mobility vehicles and use route maps".

He continued, "For the first time it will be available in a full colour format on-line at www.translink.co.uk/accessibility.  A low text version for people who are blind or partially sighted is also available along with CD rom, computer disk, tape and large print versions".

Translink's Disability Focus Group member Ulla Quayle is looking forward to using the new guide.  "As a daily user of public transport I think this new guide will be extremely useful.  I am a person with a visual impairment and my guide dog 'Petra' and I travel extensively around Northern Ireland.  I feel the access guide will be of use when planning journeys or making enquiries about public transport across the province".

Mr Hesketh concluded, "I believe this guide is a positive step in bringing information and travel opportunities closer to all the public.  We hope that passengers will pick a copy up from their local bus or rail station"
