Exciting Changes for Easibus

25 June 2001

Translink announces a new Easibus service in Derry

Easibus the award winning bus service for everyone is changing for the better. A new route ED1 Cityside is being introduced to compliment the ED2 service in the Waterside. The new route comes into effect on Monday 2nd July 2001 and will operate on Mondays and Thursdays each week.

Jeff Knox, District Manager for Easibus services said, "The new route is being introduced to serve the needs of local people and will initially operate for a trial period of six months. We are hopeful that local people and business representatives will respond to and support the service to allow it to continue beyond its trial period. In addition people over 65 in possession of a concession pass, will be able to travel for free on Easibus services from 1st October 2001 when the free travel scheme for senior citizens is introduced. "

Easibus, supported by the Department for Regional Development, is a service for everyone and offers a step-less easy access low floor bus with space for a wheelchair or pram. The service is available for anyone to use, and has a Travel Club operated by Bridge Accessible Transport (028 7126 8688) for people who may be nervous or apprehensive about using bus services. Standard and concession fares apply and the bus will stop on request along the route.

Paula Martin Manager of Bridge Accessible Transport said " Easibus is an important local service for everyone and we are pleased to work in partnership with Translink and the Department for Regional Development in its development to benefit everyone in the City".

The new ED1 service links with Edenballymore Lodge, Hazelbank / Inchview, Dunnes Stores, Donal O'Casey Court, Shantallow Health Centre, Northside, Sainsburys and Quayside.  Jeff Knox concluded, "We would encourage everyone to give the service a try as it will only be able to continue where enough people use it".
