Primary school children from the North West, Antrim and Ballymena will be hitching a free lift with Translink to support local children’s charity, The Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.

Over 700 pupils and their teachers will be joining the charity at their annual Smyth Toys Fun Day and sponsored walk in St Columb’s Park on Friday 23rd May 2008 and People’s Park on Friday 30th June 2008.Each participating school will be transported to and from the venue courtesy of Translink who are providing free buses for this event, which promises to be a fun packed morning whilst raising vital funds to support local children diagnosed with cancer.

The Fun Day kicks off with a one mile walk followed by a morning of fun with face painting, balloon modellers, disco dancing, penalty shoot outs and special guests!

Rachel Burgoyne Schools Fundraiser for the Fund said “These cross community events not only raise vital funds for children diagnosed with cancer and their families, they also increase awareness of the charity and its services.  Support from Translink will allow even more primary schools that might not have had access to fun days in the past, to attend this year’s event!”

Lynda Shannon Communications Manager for Translink adds further ‘Translink are delighted to be sponsoring the transport for these events. We hope this support will encourage even more young people to attend and take part in fundraising for this very worthy cause. We provide safe transport for over 60,000 school children everyday and look forward to assisting the NICFC with their transport arrangements.”

The Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children is encouraging any schools that would like to take part in the North West or Ballymena Fun Day or anyone who would like to volunteer at this event to contact them on 028 9080 5599 or e-mail rachel@nicfc.com for further information.
