Local Representatives on board for tour of Larne Line station upgrades

03 April 2008

Pictured reviewing the work in progress at Whitehead and Greenisland Stations are from L-R, Alderman Roy Beggs MLA, Hilton Parr, Customer Services Manager, Mayor of Carrickfergus Borough Council David Hilditch MLA, and Frank Moore Larne Line Route Manager.

East Antrim MLAs and local representatives have gone on site today to view the work in progress being carried out at Greenisland and Whitehead rail stations as part of the wider upgrade programme across the Larne line.

The work which is being carried out at all stations and halts in the NI Railways network is part of a £17 million investment package designed to deliver a better rail service.

The stations at the focus of the visit today, Greenisland and Whitehead, will benefit from a range of enhancements including, new signage, shelters, lighting, seating and re-surfacing. The upgrade work on the Larne line’s stations and halts, which is set to complete this summer, will deliver enhanced accessibility for disabled passengers and improve the environment and journey experience for all passengers.

Mayor of Carrickfergus Borough Council David Hilditch MLA, and Alderman Roy Beggs MLA viewed site works in progress at Whitehead and Greenisland stations, and were briefed on upcoming developments, including forthcoming temporary closures at Glynn, Ballycarry and Magheramourne to allow the upgrade work to continue.

Larne Line Route Manager, Frank Moore said, “It is a very exciting time for N I Railways, and as such it is extremely important for local representatives to see the steps we are taking to upgrade our facilities, for the local communities that they represent. We would like to thank them for taking this opportunity to visit both Whitehead and Greenisland stations.”
