12th March 2008:
Translink have announced today that fares on Metro, NI Railways and Ulsterbus will change from Monday 31 March 2008.
For regular users, most day tickets, Metro multi-journey tickets and rail weekly and monthly tickets will remain unchanged. However, it has been necessary to increase single and return fares due to increasing costs. On average fares, will increase on Metro by 3%, Ulsterbus by 4% and N I Railways local fares by 5%.
Translink’s Marketing Executive, Ciaran Rogan said, “We have worked hard to hold most of our fares for 2 years. We have done all we can to keep increases to a minimum; but the continued rise in costs including fuel has made some fare increases this year inevitable.
“The more people using our services means the increase in fares is as low as possible - it is important that we still offer value for money services”.
“Passengers do not have to pay any more at all if they use Smartlink on Metro, weekly or monthly tickets on N I Railways or Ulsterbus day tickets. For passengers to get the best deal, we urge them to use multi-journey tickets or take advantage of our many great fare offers.”
“Public Transport is a success story with better services and more users. The next years will see even more improvement with 20 new trains, 200 new buses, and significant track infrastructure work but, as congestion spirals more bus priority will be needed on the ground to tackle this issue”.
