Translink pays tribute to Bus Manager following Honours list recognition

11th January 2008:

Frank Clegg

Translink Acting Chief Executive Philip O’Neill has paid tribute to Frank Clegg following his recognition in the New Year’s Honours List.

According to the citation contained in the London Gazette, Mr Clegg – Translink’s Acting Bus Services General Manager – was awarded MBE ‘for services to Public Transport in Northern Ireland’.

Mr O’Neill said that the award was just recognition for the enormous contribution Mr Clegg had made during his 40-year career within public transport.

“There has been much change in the delivery of public transport over the years and Frank has been at the heart of this. His commitment to providing the best possible service to the public is well known and he is justly deserving of this award,” said Mr O’Neill.

Frank Clegg joined Belfast Corporation Transport Department in September 1967 as a Clerical Officer. Following a number of promotions, he transferred to Ulsterbus Limited in 1985 and took over management of the Oxford Street Depot. Five years later Frank became Central Area Operations Manager for Greater Belfast Area and, following the integration of rail and bus services in 1995, he took on a senior management position within Translink.

In January 2007 Frank was promoted to Acting General Manager of Bus Services, with responsibility for Bus Operations and Engineering functions.

Concluding, Mr O'Neill said: "We are tremendously proud of Frank's achievements and all the hard work he and his staff have put into improving and expanding bus services. On behalf on the entire organisation I would like to offer our congratulations to him."
