Nuala McKeever, Patron of the Employers Forum on Disability welcomes Translink onboard as one of the Forums Lead Partners. As a Lead organisation, Translink will give significant financial support to the Forum in order to ensure that it can continue to deliver services which enhance access for people with disabilities to employment and customer services.
The Employers’ Forum on Disability NI is a unique Northern Ireland charity, a network of employers and service providers working together to implement good disability practice. It has a membership of more than 80 organisations from the public, private and voluntary sectors covering approximately 20% of the Northern Ireland workforce. The Forum is managed by member employers and is almost completely funded by their subscriptions.
Alan Mercer, Director of Human Resources at Translink comments, “Translink views its employment policies as of major importance, not least towards disabled persons either employed by us or disabled applicants seeking employment. The Employers’ Forum on disability is a key player in equality and diversity terms within N Ireland and as one of the provinces largest employers we are delighted to make a leading contribution to the work of the Forum. Translink are committed to making continual improvements to ensure that our services, facilities and passenger information are accessible for all our staff and passengers alike.
Earlier this year we announced the development of a new Disability Action Plan in Partnership with NITHCo which sets out what both organisations will do over the next 12 months in order to meet the new disability duties introduced in Northern Ireland in January 2007 as part of the Disability Discrimination Act.”
The Forum’s President, John West, Head of Business Improvement at the Ulster Bank Group said “We in the Forum are delighted that Translink is showing such a commitment to disability issues. The support of our Lead Partners is crucial to ensuring the work of the Forum continues. We look forward to an ongoing strong partnership with Translink and exciting initiatives in the months and years ahead.”
Other Lead Partners are BT Northern Ireland, First Trust Bank, Ulster Bank Group and BBC Northern Ireland.
