Translink issues final call for budding artists to enter UIB Schools’ Art Competition

9th November 2007:

Northern Ireland’s budding young artists have just one month left to submit their artwork to Translink’s Ulster in Bloom Schools’ Art Competition.

Over 35 schools are already involved, but with the deadline for entrants coming up on December 14, the final call has been issued for schools to get involved in this year’s David Hockney-inspired competition.

Translink Communications Manager, Lynda Shannon, said: “This year’s theme enables pupils to investigate the work and ideas of one of the most iconic artists of our times. It’s a wonderful opportunity for children to get involved and express themselves.

“Now in his 70th year, Hockney is famed for the great variety of techniques and styles he uses. This offers great scope for the pupils to employ a range of visual media, including charcoals, paints and collage.”

The competition, now in its seventh consecutive year, offers pupils the chance to win Translink travel prizes for their classes and families in each of the four categories - years 8, 9, 10 and Special Schools. Winners will also have their work displayed at Great Victoria Street and Central Station – and on the company website which attracts around 10,000 visitors a day.

Further competition information is available by contacting Morrow Communications on 028 9039 3837 or by logging on to www.translink.co.uk
