Better Belfast is all Mapped Out
2nd August 2007:

Ciaran Rogan from Translink joins visitors to Belfast city, the Pelweckyj family from Germany, Cllr Michael Browne, Vice Chair of Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau and Susie McCullough, BVCB’s Director of Marketing at the launch of ‘ultimate travel map’ for the greater Belfast Region.
The map will make navigation easy for both visitors to the city and locals alike by integrating a wide variety of key attractions and vital visitor information including map references and details of Translink’s bus and rail networks. The map is FREE and will be widely available to the public from the Northern Ireland tourist information centre network, airports, seaports and Translink bus and rail stations. It is also available at Belfast International Airport from the BVCB managed tourist information centre and will be available at the George Best Belfast City Airport tourist information centre when it opens next month.
With almost 7 million visitors per year coming into Belfast, the Belfast Visitor & Convention Bureau (BVCB) and Translink have teamed up to make navigation easy with the production of the ‘ultimate travel map’ for the greater Belfast Region.
Half a million new maps have been produced and the format integrates vital visitor information such as where to stay and places to visit with details of Translink’s bus and rail networks.
Translink’s Marketing Executive, Ciaran Rogan explains:
“We have packed a range of public transport information into this free map including details of the Metro Bus network’s 12 high frequency corridors, Metro Day Tickets and locations of Belfast’s main Bus and Rail Centres. In the past tourists using other visitor maps would have needed to get further information in order to find out the best way to travel by public transport. Now, people can find the places they want to go to and immediately identify which bus service they need to get or which train station to use. The new Belfast map really is a wonderful resource for tourists.”
The map will compliment BVCB’s definitive guide to Belfast, the ‘whatabout guide’, and will be useful, not only visitors to the city but locals too. Just as the city has expanded and more tourist attractions have opened, this map too now extends beyond the city boundaries, offering visitor information on a range of amenities across Belfast, Antrim, Carrickfergus, Newtownabbey, North Down and Lisburn and importantly how to get there.
“As the North of Ireland’s gateway Tourist Information Centre, the Belfast Welcome Centre will be one of the key outlets for the map” says Cllr Michael Brown, BVCB’s Vice Chair.
“The map will help the centre’s travel advisers highlight all the key tourist attractions in the greater Belfast area and how to get there. It illustrates a wide variety of accommodation, restaurants, pubs, attractions and entertainment venues available with map references; so it’s easy to work out how to get there by public transport – a great aid for locals looking for alternative things to do or ideas for entertaining visiting friends or family.”
The free map is widely available to the public, distributed throughout the Northern Ireland tourist information centre network, airports, seaports and Translink bus and rail stations. It is also available at the BVCB managed Belfast International Airport tourist information centre which celebrated its second birthday recently and will be available at the George Best Belfast City Airport tourist information centre when it opens next month.
BVCB is primarily funded by Belfast City Council. As a public-private partnership, it represents 420 members and is sponsored by Diageo Northern Ireland.
