Translink provides Park ‘n’ Ride services to George Best funeral

1 December 2005

Translink has announced that it will operate Park ‘N’ Ride services directly to and from the entrance to the Stormont Estate on Saturday 3 December.

Services will commence at 7am and will continue until approximately 10.30am.  Return shuttle services will commence as soon as the funeral cortège has departed for a private family burial at Roselawn Cemetery.

A special single fare of £1 will be applicable for all passengers from designated Park ‘N’ Ride sites where parking will be free of charge.  No concessionary fares are available.

Translink’s General Manager for bus services, Phillip O’Neill advised anyone wishing to avail of Park ‘n’ Ride services to travel as early as possible, as numbers being admitted to the Stormont Estate will be limited.

“We are operating additional services on Saturday 3rd December to cater for those who wish to attend George Best’s funeral but for whom transport and parking may be problematic.

However we would like to remind our passengers that huge numbers are expected to attend the funeral service, so ensuring health and safety is paramount importance. Translink is working closely with Castlereagh Borough Council and Stormont Estate management to ensure we provide a sufficient number of services without exceeding Stormont’s established capacity.”

“Our drivers will endeavour to drop-off and pick-up passengers as close as possible to the entrance of the Stormont Estate, depending on congestion levels on Saturday morning. We would therefore urge all those using our services to exercise increased caution getting on and off buses. ”
Passengers may also use the Metro 4A scheduled service from Donegall Square West according to the current timetable.
