Translink Hits a Home Run

24 October 2004

For the fifth year in a row, Translink has been shortlisted for a prestigious UK bus ‘Oscar’, in the annual Bus Industry Awards.

This year, the company has been shortlisted in the Innovation category for its wide-ranging community safety programmes and initiatives, which include the Child Safety Bus, Safe School Travel Booklet, and Service Rangers project.

“The safety of our customers and staff is always of paramount importance,” explained Translink Chief Executive, Keith Moffatt.

“We actually operate 13 safety initiatives spanning community safety programmes and campaigns specifically targeting children and young people.
We are delighted to have made it to the finals of this year’s award – no mean feat when you consider that there have been140 entries, representing some 220 different organisations from across the UK.”

The awards recognise excellence and best practice across the UK bus industry, with bus operators, local authorities and other organisations competing with innovative projects which aim to bring higher standards of travel and care for passengers.

BIA Chairman, Barry more said, “BIA has always maintained that every finalist is a winner, and this year’s results again show this to be the case. Such strong competition underlines the exceptional achievement of the 2004 finalists.

The awards will be presented at the London Hilton on Park Lane on Thursday 18 November.

Ends.
