Complimentary Citybus (now Metro) Shuttle Service to Belfast Hallowe’en Spooktacular

20th October 2004

It’s fast approaching the time of year when witches and ghosts come out to play - and Translink and Belfast City Council promise that it will be scary how good the Citybus (now Metro) and Belfast City Council’s Fangtastic Hallowe’en spooktacular will be this year.

“We are proud to sponsor the City Council’s Hallowe’en celebrations once more providing the complimentary shuttle service between Chichester Street and the Odyssey has become one of our annual events and we are delighted to support the community, children and adults alike, in this ‘spooky’ way,” said Billy Gilpin Translink’s Central Area Manager, when he joined a bus load of vampires, ghouls and other crazy creatures for their annual excursion, from the City Hall to the Odyssey, to announce details of this year’s Citybus-sponsored Hallowe’en celebrations.

This year’s programme takes place over five days, starting next Wednesday (October 27) and culminating with the annual fireworks extravaganza, which this year takes place once again at the Odyssey on Hallowe’en night (Sunday October 31).

To ensure that all the little elves and pixies as well as witches, warlocks and their familiars can make their way to and from the spooktacle, Citybus (now Metro) once again will be operating their free shuttle service, from 6pm onwards, on a circular route between Chichester Street and Queen’s Quay (dropping off and picking up in Station Street) throughout the evening.  Timetable details are available from Citybus (now Metro) on 028 9066 6630.

The main entertainment programme begins in the Odyssey car park, at 7pm, with live music, carnival-themed entertainment and all sorts of surprises to keep revellers on their toes and looking over their shoulders throughout the evening, which culminates with the annual fireworks display, at around 8pm.

Belfast City Council also is offering a prize for the best costume on the evening.

Events in the days leading up to All Hallow’s Eve include ghost tours of the City Hall, storytelling and other entertainment, as well as tours of the Friar’s Bush graveyard, a special Hallowe’en-themed entertainment programme at Belfast Zoo on Saturday October 30, and a special musical evening for 8-13 year olds at St. George’s Market.
