Translink Answers Health and Safety Calling

7 November 2003

Are you sitting comfortably? Is just one of the questions that has led to Translink’s Call Centre becoming one of only four Northern Ireland companies to win recognition in this year’s National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) awards.

The question is one of a series contained in Translink’s health and safety induction document, developed to detail the specific issues facing its 35 Call Centre staff who handle over 100,000 inquiries each month.

“We won the NISO Certificate of Merit Award for a Highly Commended performance, thanks to our health and safety induction-training programme,” explained Cinty Stubberfield, Translink’s Call Centre Manager.

“We developed a totally new programme for staff to coincide with last years £250,000 investment in our new Call Centre facility. We identified specific health and safety issues faced by the call centre staff, and compiled a document detailing the relevant company procedures and policies.

“Our Call Centre staff deal with over 3,000 daily enquiries, playing a key role in the provision of a quality customer service. The specific tailoring of health and safety policy and procedures, ensuring they are seated comfortably, take regular screen breaks and have access to footrests, wrist pads and anti-glare screens, is a key investment in the provision of that service.

“We are delighted that our efforts have been recognised by winning this award, and look forward to continue providing the best service for our customers, and the best working conditions for our staff.” She concluded.
