N I Railways Declare Police Patrols A Success!

18 August 2003

Northern Ireland Railways has hailed the recent on-board PSNI patrols a success.  The scheme which saw police officers and NIR officials travelling on evening rail services to Bangor on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th August passed without incident.

Seamus Scallon, Translink’s Railway Services Manager explained; “It would seem that the publicity surrounding the police patrols was enough to deter would-be troublemakers.   Although this is very much an on-going issue for us to tackle, we feel that our main objective has been achieved which was to place considerable doubt in the minds of those who think the harassment of staff and fellow passengers on evening services will go unnoticed or unpunished.”

He continued; “We want to maintain a safe and relaxed atmosphere for all rail users and we will continue to work closely with the PSNI to achieve this.”
