Transport Holding Company Appoints Translink Chief Executive

21 July 2003

Dr Joan Smyth CBE, Chairman of the Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company, today announced that Mr. Keith Moffatt had been appointed Chief Executive of Translink.  Mr. Moffatt will take up his appointment in the Autumn.

Currently the Managing Director of Metroline plc in London, Mr. Moffatt has a wide variety of experience in public transport since he joined the industry in 1976 as senior management trainee with the National Bus Company.

His experience includes the design of the Tyne and Wear bus-Metro integrated network in the 1980’s; Managing Director of the Oxford Bus Company where he led the transformation of the bus network into a dynamic, customer-focussed operation in which patronage increased substantially; a director of two UK rail franchises; and his current leadership of one of London’s largest bus companies.

Dr. Smyth commented, “The Board of NITHC is pleased to announce Mr. Moffatt’s appointment and wishes him well in the challenges ahead.  Translink aspires to make an even more significant contribution to the quality of life throughout Northern Ireland and Mr. Moffatt’s range of experience makes him well qualified to lead this process.  I also wish to pay tribute to my fellow Board Member, Mr. Jim Aiken, who has admirably undertaken the most difficult of tasks over the past several months in his role as Acting Chief Executive.  The Board is indebted to him for the important role which he has played in this transition period.
