Whitehead in Bloom, winners of the best Community Rail Halt category of the 2004 Translink Ulster in Bloom competition, took a trip to Derry this week on one of the new CAF trains as part of their prize.  The group was welcomed on their arrival at Waterside Station by Mayor of Londonderry Councillor Lynn Fleming, before heading off for a tour of the Guildhall and lunch in the City Hotel.
Translink Chief Executive, Keith Moffatt congratulated the Whitehead in Bloom winners commenting, "Everyone involved in Ulster in Bloom can be proud of their contribution to colour and vitality across Northern Ireland. Open to all sections and all ages of the Northern Ireland community, Ulster in Bloom encourages civic pride, and makes our villages, towns, cities and bus / rail stations brighter, more colourful and welcoming to local residents and tourists alike.
"As ever, Translink remains committed to this Ulster in Bloom sponsorship and to improving our services. Together with the introduction of new trains, buses, better passenger facilities which make public transport more accessible and attractive it demonstrates our support of the local communities and our commitment towards improving the image of Northern Ireland. We were very pleased with how our new 'Community Rail Halt' category was received and will certainly be developing this element of Ulster in Bloom in the 2005 competition" Mr Moffatt said.
