Translink shortlisted in Bus Industry ‘Oscars’

17 October 2002

Translink has been declared as a finalist in the prestigious UK bus ‘Oscars’, the Bus Industry Awards 2002.

Translink has been short-listed in two categories, ‘The Commission for Integrated Transport Customer Services Award’, as a result of it’s ongoing commitment to improve customer service and to listen to customer opinions and a special Marketing award entitled the ‘Eureka! Award’ for the success of it’s Smartpass sales promotion which targeted specifically Senior Citizens and War Pensioners.

The free travel scheme for Senior Citizens and War Pensioners, which is funded by the NI Concessionary Fares Scheme, has been a resounding success - with over 143,000 Smartpasses issued to date and over 3 million journeys made. The innovative sales promotion was used to encourage and reward the use of the new Smartpass.

Ciaran Rogan, Translink Head of Marketing, commented, “We are delighted to be finalists in not one, but two, categories in these prestigious Awards.  This success clearly shows that Translink’s services are among the best in the UK, and we look forward to the finals in November.”

The Bus Industry Awards promote excellence and best practice across the UK bus industry.  BIA Director, Chris Cheek, added, “BIA has maintained that every finalist is a winner, and the results this year are proving that to be true.  Such strong competition underlines the exceptional achievement of 2002 finalists.”

The Awards will be presented by Secretary of State, the Rt. Hon Alistair Darling MP, Minister for Transport at a ceremony in London on 19 November 2002.
