Dear Colleagues
You will have received information in the past week from the NILGOSC pension scheme. We are in this scheme with the 26 local councils, non-teaching staff employed by the Education & Library Boards and the Voluntary Grammar Schools, staff
of the Housing Executive and staff of a wide range of other associated employers.
The letter highlights the NILGOSC scheme is a final salary scheme which means that the pension paid to you is based on your final pay at date of leaving / retirement and the length of your scheme membership. This pension scheme is a significant employment
benefit not enjoyed by many others.
The information from NILGOSC also noted some changes to the scheme being proposed by the Department of the Environment from April 2009. These changes do not come from us but cover the scheme as a whole. Full details and ‘frequently asked questions’ about
the changes are on
www.nilgosc.org.uk – there are links from the front page.
Also, we have just been notified that our Rail Services Division has achieved formal recognition as an “Investor in People” (Rail Fleet Engineering was earlier accredited to IIP in 2002).
This is a great achievement of which our colleagues in Rail Services can be immensely proud. This award recognises our commitments to and achievements in training and development and looks forward to the business improvement that people performance delivers.
During the assessment process 66 employees (13%) covering all grades were interviewed. One comment stood out in the final report and embodied the conclusion of the IIP Assessment – a colleague said “people are becoming proud to be railwaymen again”.
Congratulations and thank you to everyone in Rail Services who participated in the development of the organisation over the last few years and particularly to those who participated directly in this assessment.
Rail Services joins many other parts of the group accredited as Investors in People – this is a huge part of our success.
Catherine Mason,
Group Chief Executive
