Dear Colleagues,
The issue of data and information security is one which gets more high profile almost every week. You will have seen many news reports in the past weeks and months of personal data lost by or stolen from public and private sector organisations. Causes can range from sophisticated attacks on systems to the simple theft or loss of a laptop or memory stick.
As a large organisation we must be aware of our responsibility to protect and secure all personal data and information we may hold. There are now very tight regulations and legislation about data / information security and each of us must act responsibly – particularly those who use computers and laptops.
Our IT colleagues work hard to maintain the security of our information but they need your help and support. Make sure you are up to date with our cyber liability policy and if you have questions about data security – ask! Most importantly look after equipment, laptops, smartphones, memory sticks, etc. and use passwords and security options.
Lastly, can I thank all of you who worked hard over the past few weeks to keep services running or to get things back to normal during the period of bad weather. I know this was really appreciated by our customers.
Catherine Mason,
Group Chief Executive
