28 March 2008
Dear Colleagues,
We currently have about 180 female bus drivers – that’s 9% of all our drivers. We also have 7 female bus inspectors, 6 train drivers and 27 conductors / customer service coordinators. Even though this is a lot more than 7 or 8 years ago we still have room for plenty more.
From the 8th - 10th April 2008 we will be holding a ‘Have a Go’ event at Nutts Corner for women interested in becoming bus drivers where they will have the chance to get behind the wheel and have a go.
We want to highlight to women bus driving is changing and it is worth thinking about a career with us; many of the benefits may not be immediately obvious. For example, we are increasingly offering part time and term time work which many will find more family friendly along with free travel and the opportunity to work in your community for your community.
So, have any of your female friends or family members ever fancied being a bus driver for the day? Let them know about this event.
I have a PCV license myself and will be along on the 8th April. Those attending can drive a bus and talk to some of our current female drivers about their experiences.
This event is first come, first served - spaces can be booked by calling the Human Resource Department on 90899400 ext. 2295 / 2204 during office hours or look at www.translink.co.uk/recruitment.asp.
