August 2007
Dear Colleagues,
In spite of the fact that summer 2007 has never
really got started, it is full steam ahead for Translink. Currently our
Property Department is working hard to improve and update our facilities
all around Northern Ireland benefiting both our staff and our customers
while helping create a reliable and sustainable public transport network
which will continue to grow passenger numbers over the coming years. I
would like to take the opportunity to update you on the progress of some
of the key projects currently ongoing.
We are currently in the final approval stages of announcing
a major investment which will deliver a purpose-built modern Rail Station
with greater passenger capacity, comfort and convenience features for the
City of Newry. The new station will also be supported by a new dedicated
road link and a 300 space Park & Ride facility. Pending final DRD approval
the tender process will commence with construction work planned to start
early 2008.
In addition on the bus side, work is progressing well on the
new Lisburn Buscentre with a completion date set for February 2008. The
works are currently at approximately 60% complete and the overall cost
of this project is estimated at close to £2.4million.
These new passenger facilities are great news for the staff
and passengers alike and will no doubt provide a further boost to bus and
rail services within the area.
Also progressing well is the extension to the Running Shed
at York Road which began in October 2006 and due for completion this October
at an estimated cost of £3million this facility will provide
greatly improved and much needed servicing and maintenance facilities for
our new generation of rolling stock.
Regards,
Philip O'Neill
Acting Chief Executive
