Dear Colleagues,
You will be aware of the fatal accident at a user worked crossing
on the railway line outside Limavady yesterday afternoon. Our condolences
and prayers are with the family of the gentleman who lost his life.
Our thoughts are also with our colleague who was driving the train and did
all he could to avoid this tragic accident. I would also mention the conductor
who looked after the passengers on board and all staff who worked in the aftermath
of this incident.
The incident is subject to an independent investigation by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch and we will conduct our own formal internal inquiry. NI Railways has an ongoing and rigorous programme to understand, control and reduce risks at user worked crossings. Lessons learned from the investigations into this incident will of course be used to inform and strengthen our activity.

Acting Chief Executive
