Chief Executive's weekly email

27 July 2007

Dear Colleagues,

It is important for us to work closely with partners who can increase the numbers using public transport. Two new maps which we helped put together highlight such opportunities.

Minister Conor Murphy MLA came to Belfast Central Station last week to launch the ‘Belfast Walking Map’. This shows how long it takes on foot to reach many locations in Belfast City Centre from main bus and train stations.

The idea is to get people out of their cars by showing how easy it is to take the bus or train and then walking a short distance – for work or play!

We have also teamed up with the Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau to produce ‘Belfast - The Ultimate Travel Map’ for visitors, tourists (and locals with a bad sense of direction!). This detailed map is packed with information including where to stay, restaurants and cafes, places to visit and entertainment venues along with links to the bus and rail networks.

With more people visiting Belfast and Northern Ireland every year, making bus and rail services easy to use is vital – and of course it includes all of us being helpful and welcoming.

The old saying is correct – help others to help ourselves!
