June 2007
Dear Colleagues,
Our year end results show that total bus and rail passenger numbers
grew by approximately 1.5 million to 76 million in 2006/07. This
is a fantastic result.
The numbers using both bus and rail services rose, in particular
Metro, Goldline and local rail services performed very strongly.
However, it was good to see Ulsterbus services and the Enterprise
also growing again. This clearly shows we are doing the right
things and passengers like the changes we have made and think
services are getting better and better. The positive results
are already continuing into 2007/08.
Of course this is also a good result for the environment as it
equates to removing one million cars from our roads over the
past year. Well done to everyone, it is a result we should all
be proud of – there are few other public transport networks
delivering the same.
While on the environment, we have launched our new TIDY
Translink Awards, to reward colleagues who show pride in their workplace
and take care of their immediate environment. Now is your chance
to show colleagues, passengers and the public that your place
of work is a great place for them to use, work in or travel to
and from – look out for the information leaflets and briefing
notes.
Lastly, our ‘Meet the Managers’ events will take
place next week. This is the second year we have invited passengers
and the public to meet us and ask questions of senior management
teams about our bus and rail services. The schedule is:
- Europa Buscentre on 11 June
- Foyle Street Buscentre on 12 June
- Belfast City Hall (for Metro) on 13 June
- Central Station on 14 June – all taking place 4pm to 6pm
These events give us an excellent opportunity to listen to passenger
opinions and suggestions, answer questions and explain changes,
plans and developments. In an operation the size of Translink
we don’t always get it right, so listening is very important.
Feel free to come along or tell your friends!
And just a very quick one to end…good luck to the Translink
Team (HR and Property staff) who have entered the Garden Show
Ireland’s ‘Team Garden Challenge’, the team’s
efforts are on show at the Garden Festival, Hillsborough Castle
this weekend!
