Chief Executive's weekly email

4 May 2007

Dear Colleagues,

You may be aware of a story that appeared in the Andersonstown News last week (28th April) which lead with a front page headline ‘Sectarian Tension at Falls Depot’.

The seriousness of the allegations contained in the headline was met with strong rebuttals both from Translink and the ATGWU Trade Union, both organisations issued statements to the media and local politicians refuting these untrue claims and contacted the newspaper to make sure we had a ‘Right to Reply’ in this week’s edition. The article the paper has subsequently published provided further explanation of the situation.

We work hard to maintain a neutral workplace throughout the company to ensure all colleagues can work with respect and dignity. Attacks such as these on our reputation or unfounded allegations of sectarianism will not be tolerated and are challenged. We have a policy of correcting misleading stories in the media.

I would urge that if you are unsure of any of our policies in relation to flags and emblems, equality, gender or other related policies to contact your line manager for a copy and further clarification.

I’d also like to thank those from Coleraine bus depot who worked last night to assist with the evacuation of residents from the Windy Hall estate after a toxic fire broke out at warehouse near their homes. Our colleagues in the bus division responded within 15 minutes and provided the necessary transport to move residents to safety at the local community and leisure centre facilities.

Finally – enjoy the weather over the May Day holiday, whether you have to work, rest or play!
