Transforming Public Transport in 2018

Monday 15 January 2018
Translink is embarking on a period of significant change in 2018 as we deliver key Infrastructure projects across Northern Ireland, including Glider, Belfast Transport Hub, NW Transport Hub, Translink Future Ticketing System and many other improvement projects designed to deliver our Vision; ‘To be your first choice for travel in Northern Ireland’. To ensure we are organised to meet this challenge and to integrate business change into our operations, we have decided to establish a cross functional business change team. This will be set up over the coming months and I would ask that you support the changes within the executive team, as we deliver the transformation of public transport in Northern Ireland.
"The growth in public transport is set to continue this year"
Another key area of focus for us is to improve communications internally, you told us this in the employee survey, and I am pleased to announce that Deborah McConnell has recently joined us to support our improvement actions on Internal Communications. I would like to welcome Deborah to the team, she will be getting out to meet people over the next few weeks and months and I look forward to plenty of input from everyone.

Last week I attended Belfast City Council’s Growth and Regeneration Committee to update the council on the Belfast Transport Hub and the wider Weavers Cross site development plans. The council were very supportive of the development and the future plans. I also took the opportunity to brief the council on the upcoming Glider service and was pleased that they voted to support the 12hr bus lanes required to deliver a high frequency and reliable service, to transform public transport in Belfast.

We are continuing our support for local community initiatives and are progressing our partnership with Young at Art, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2018. We are sponsoring the 20th Belfast Children’s Festival, which runs from Friday 9th to Wednesday 14th March with more than 110 events at 14 locations across Belfast. Young at Art are also working with us on key projects including Bus and Train Week 2018, Glider and with a number of schools in the vicinity of the Belfast Transport Hub. We are also jointly nominated, with Young at Art, for two awards in the Allianz Arts and Business Awards NI, which take place on 24th January.

There is further good news on the awards front. Translink has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Chartered Institute of Marketing Awards for ‘Marketing Team of the Year’, against some tough competition. The results will be announced in April, good luck to all the teams.
