30th October 2015

Yesterday we welcomed the new Transport Minister Michelle McIlveen MLA to Bellarena Train Station to view progress on the second phase of the Coleraine – Derry~Londonderry Railway Renewals Project. She travelled on the train from Belfast to Bellarena to experience the service first hand and welcomed the opportunity to see the work being done on the new passing loop at Bellarena.

We're committed to developing rail services in the North West; last year we saw strong growth of over 12% in passenger numbers on the Derry~Londonderry railway line - that's over 2 million passenger journeys and we look forward to building on this success.

This project will secure the line's operation for the future, enhancing current levels of safety and reliability and providing the capability for an hourly service to Derry~Londonderry.

We are making good progress on the installation of the new 800m passing loop at Bellarena along with new platforms for six car trains sets. The platform extensions at Castlerock are now also almost complete. We will upgrade the signalling and telecomms systems along the railway line and this work will start on site in early 2016.

Building a positive reputation is essential for business success, boosting public confidence in our service provision and attracting more people to use public transport. The work of our Communications Team plays a central role in enhancing our reputation and I would like to congratulate the team on their recent success at the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) PRide Awards 2015 where they beat stiff competition to win 4 major award categories: Public Sector Campaign, Community Relations Campaign, Public Sector Team of the Year and Outstanding In-House Team.

At this time of year, we welcome many families on board our services as they enjoy the half term break. A wide range of attractive travel tickets are now available until November 8 including the Translink Family & Friends Ticket, Bus Rambler Ticket and Metro Family Day Ticket. Please encourage your own friends and family to use the bus and train as the most convenient and best value way to explore Northern Ireland this Halloween.
