New Buses

Group Chief Executive's Weekly Message

"better choices for more customers"
13th June 2014

Dear Colleagues,

This week we 'unveiled' the first of 42 new double deck buses for Metro which will all be in service by early September. This investment of around £9 million is great news for Metro, for our customers and for the local supplier Wrightbus in Ballymena. The buses will certainly be noticed on the roads as they have a new all-over magenta livery.

They will be used on our busiest Metro routes across the city including Ormeau Road, Newtownards Road and Malone / Stranmillis Roads. A number of them will serve the new Park and Ride facility at Dundonald when it opens towards the end of the year.

Inside, comfort, quality and accessibility are all important, with wheelchair space, room for two buggies and CCTV as standard. We also believe they will be amongst the first vehicles in Northern Ireland to meet the latest Euro VI emission standards (as someone said when we were having a look at the buses – this means the 'air' coming out of the exhaust is probably cleaner than the 'air' going in!).

Of course, as well as investment in services, your views and suggestions are vital to move our business forward. That is why we conducted a major Employee Engagement Survey last year and we would now like to take stock of where we are and progress made in addressing the issues you raised.

Over the next few weeks, we will conduct a 'Pulse Survey' to be completed by a sample of employees across each division. Your views are important and I would ask you to complete this survey and help us work towards keeping our business on the road of continuous improvement.
