The Belfast Hub: a new heart for the city

"a world class passenger transport interchange"
17th January 2014

Dear Colleagues,

With the Department for Regional Development and the Strategic Investment Board we continue to work on developing 'The Belfast Hub', a world class passenger transport interchange for the city of Belfast on the Europa / GVS site. The Hub will be a new gateway to Belfast and Northern Ireland for bus and rail, it will be a new home for Enterprise services and as well as integrated transport the development could include leisure, retail, office or residential opportunities. We see The Belfast Transport Hub as a new landmark and destination in the city; a new heart for Belfast.

We need The Hub because we are at capacity in the current Europa and GVS facilities; nearly 7 million people pass through these stations each year and we expect this may double in the next 20 years. Tourism will benefit from The Hub – we will create a great first impression of Belfast as a progressive city. Local communities will also benefit; this development will be the catalyst for the regeneration of this part of west and south Belfast.

We are currently consulting widely and generating political support. The next step will be the initial design. If you would like more information, visit

Finally, Ulsterbus Tours are pleased to once again be exhibiting at the 2014 Belfast Telegraph Holiday World Show at the Kings Hall this weekend. They will certainly be easy to spot, with one of their luxury, 52-seat, tri-axle coaches taking pride of place at the stand. The stand this year focuses upon coach holidays across Ireland.

The 2014 Coach Holiday programme is now on sale and has been met with highly positive response from customers. Young families will no doubt be interested by a new tour which takes in Legoland, Warner Bros Studios (Harry Potter) and Cadbury World.
