Sustainable Travel Challenge for Schools

"tackling car dependency"
14th February 2014

Dear Colleagues,

Still making life better for our customers with attractive facilities this week we announced plans to construct a new pedestrian footbridge at Moira Train Station. Work will start in March and is due to be completed by the summer. The new bridge will allow customers to cross the tracks when crossing barriers are down in order to catch their train safely and on time.

We want the next generation to choose passenger transport for a more sustainable Northern Ireland - this week we launched the Translink Eco Schools Travel Challenge to tackle car dependency. The challenge encourages young people across Northern Ireland to move away from car use and choose more environmentally-friendly transport for the school run including walking, cycling, bus or train travel. Schools can register their participation online now at www.translink.co.uk/ecoschools.

You will already have been informed that current staff passes and child dependants passes will expire on 30th June 2014 and will no longer be valid for travel on Translink services. Please send any updated staff and/or child dependant photographs to HR Services. It is anticipated that replacement passes will be distributed in June 2014 and you will be required to exchange them with your current pass/es.

Finally, just a reminder to stop by Central Station today for our cake sale in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care (I have done so already). All donations welcome and there are plenty of tempting treats to choose from!
