Major Park & Ride Development

"providing hassle-free journeys with more time to relax"
5th December 2014

More and more people are using Park & Ride facilities right across Northern Ireland, enjoying hassle free journeys with more time to relax.

Park and Ride is crucial in the successful development of our bus and rail network. Providing Park & Ride in the right places positively changes travel behaviour and traffic congestion, reduces harmful emissions and has wider economic benefits.

We have now opened a brand new facility along one of our busiest bus corridors.

Dundonald Park & Ride has been operational since Monday offering 520 free car-parking spaces. The facility is a key part of the new Belfast Rapid Transit system due to start in Autumn 2017. In the meantime, customers will be served by scheduled Ulsterbus services and a new Metro 4X express service using modern environmentally-friendly Euro 6 Double-Deck vehicles.

Metro 4X operates every 15-20 minutes at the peak, Monday – Friday, and customers can enjoy return travel for just £2.80 per day with a smartlink card. Handy passenger guides and a special discount offer have been distributed to over 30,000 households in the area.

This facility's opening also coincides with an enhanced Newtownards Ulsterbus timetable offering more frequent services to and from Belfast with off peak services calling into the site.

We are also looking forward to the opening of Tamnamore Park & Ride with over 200 car-parking spaces and a 50 space extension of Ballee Park & Ride is nearing completion.

Ahead of a busy Christmas and New Year period, we are looking forward to delivering these Park & Ride services and encouraging more people to enjoy the benefits of public transport.
