Learn & Develop

Group Chief Executive's Weekly Message

"make the most of development and engagement opportunities"
23rd May 2014

Dear Colleagues,

Last year, over 800 training days were taken-up by employees across our business to develop their skills and knowledge. If you are interested in developing your career please check out our new Group Learning & Development Calendar 2014/15 which is now available on Sharepoint to choose the training that best suits your own ambitions. It's great to see so many of you making the most of these opportunities.

One thing that we are continually trying to improve is keeping in touch with our employees; following our Employee Engagement Survey last year, we put together action plans across the Group to work on the issues you said were most important. It is clear these are already making a real difference at a local level. Visit sharepoint to see progress against your divisional plan. Also, look out for the Employee Engagement Pulse Survey which will be coming soon and will measure progress from last year to keep us all moving in the right direction.

I have been continuing to visit colleagues across the network. One thing I've noticed is the work done to keep our facilities clean and attractive and also eco-friendly. This makes our workplaces more enjoyable places to be and leaves a very good impression on our customers. This is why we work with 'Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful' on our TIDY Translink Awards.

This year eight facilities achieved the top Platinum Award. They include: Antrim Bus & Rail Centre, Bangor Train Station, Coleraine Bus & Rail Centre, Downpatrick Bus Station, Lisburn Railway Station, Foyle Street Bus Station, Newry Bus Station and Portadown Train Station. A further 12 facilities scooped Gold, 12 achieved Silver and nine received a Bronze Award. Well done everyone on these great results!

Finally, a big thank you must go to all of you who organised and supported our recent Charity Golf Day. By all accounts it was a great day out which has raised thousands of pounds for our nominated charities: Alzheimer's Society, Fibromyalgia Support NI and Macmillan Cancer Care. Planning has already started for next year's event and everyone across the business will be invited to take part.
