Rail Business Awards and energy efficiency success

"tremendous recognition of business excellence"
1st March 2013

Dear Colleagues,

This week we won two top accolades at the UK 2012 Rail Business Awards in London, where we were up against all the 'big' train operators.

Fleet Standards Engineer Naomi Orr won the Young Professional Award for the most outstanding young manager working within the UK Rail Industry. This is a fantastic achievement for Naomi who is responsible for the development and review of standards and management systems relating to our train fleet and associated engineering activities, the fleet engineering staff training and overseeing the safety, quality, environmental and engineering management system. Naomi was also a Project Engineer and Testing and Commissioning Engineer managing the testing of the Class 3000 and Class 4000 fleets prior to service introduction.

Our New Trains Two Programme won the Rolling Stock Excellence Award for demonstrating excellence within the UK rail industry's supplier network. The programme involved a large team of people from across Translink and covered the procurement of 20 new Class 4000 trains from CAF, a range of associated network enhancements and also focussed on the delivery of improved customer service, which would in turn generate passenger growth. Again, this is a great accolade.

In addition we achieved highly commended in four other categories. Congratulations to everyone involved in this tremendous recognition of business excellence! Special congratulations must go to Naomi and our New Trains Two Programme Manager James Erwin along with the programme team on their top results.

Another impressive achievement this week was our Number One ranking in Northern Ireland in the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme for the 2nd year running. This success reflects a range of company-wide developments including the installation of voluntary half-hourly electricity metering, attainment of the Carbon Trust Standard, our 'Go Eco' energy awareness programme & Eco-driving initiatives, energy efficient lighting installation and heating system conversions to natural gas instead of oil. This result is particularly timely ahead of Climate Week, March 4 – 10; why not take part in this important environmental event - click www.climateweek.com for more information.
