GoSkills Go for Excellence Awards 2010

NI Railways had two finalists and a winner at the recent "GoSkills Go for Excellence Awards". David Hayes was a finalist in the Rail Apprentice of the Year Award, Peter Lais was also a finalist in the N/SVQ Achiever of the Year Award and Garth Turner was the winner of the Management and Leadership Achiever of the Year Award.


UK Bus Awards 2010

Frank Clegg, General Manager - Bus Services, has been awarded the top honour for ‘Services to the Bus Industry’ at the prestigious UK Bus Awards. This accolade – the highest acknowledgment in the bus industry - was received for his long and outstanding service to the bus industry in Northern Ireland.

At the same awards we were also Highly Commended for our ‘Switch to Efficiency’ energy awareness campaign.


International Station Awards 2010

Newry Train Station received the prestigious title of ‘Best Small Station’ at the International Station Awards 2010.


Chartered Institute of Public Relations Awards 2010

  • Silver Award for ‘Outstanding In-House Public Relations Team’
  • Silver Award in the ‘Public Sector’ category for our rail safety campaign
  • Finalist in the ‘Crisis Communication’ category for our ‘Enterprise Headline Grabbing Fares’ Campaign


Northern Ireland 12th Environmental Benchmarking Survey

Translink has achieved Platinum standard in the 12th Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey delivered by the ARENA Network.

This award recognises our achievements in environmental management and performance and is testament to the good work we are all doing in this area as we have improved on last year’s result.

Carbon Trust Standard

Translink has been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard in recognition of measuring, managing and reducing its carbon emissions.


Brighter Belfast Awards 2010

We won the Business and Community Partnership Award at the Brighter Belfast Awards 2010. This award is in recognition of our work with Palmerston Residents Association in east Belfast and their efforts to look after Sydenham Railway Halt.

Association of Community Rail Partnerships Community Rail Awards 2010

Greenisland Realway Adopt a Station Project (GRASP) has won the Best International Achievement Award at the Association of Community Rail Partnerships Community Rail Awards 2010. The Project was recognized for its work with Translink NI Railways through an Adopt a Station scheme at Greenisland Railway Station.

Infrastructure Training Make it to the National Training Award Final

Recognised as one of the Oscar events within the training world, the National Training Awards are keenly fought for by a wide range of organisations and individuals.

To be selected as a finalist in this year’s award was a major achievement for the Infrastructure team who submitted the development of the Track Safety Co-ordinator (TSC) role in line the introduction of the CAF trains.

It also highlighted the value that the TSC Briefing book had made to provide guidance to persons working on the track. Judges recognised the significant achievement and demonstration of effectiveness in the approach taken to deliver training and development in a changing environment.

Winner - Translink Website - Best Website for Public Sector or Not-for-Profit Organisations at EPiServer Awards 2010

The judges said, “This website gives the people of Northern Ireland (and visitors to the region) an excellent resource to turn to when planning their journeys. Presented very clearly, users can easily access travel updates and news as well as save key content, such as favourite timetables and planned journeys in a ‘My Translink’ section.”

Translink Manager wins Best Energy Manager

Translink’s Mal McGreevy, General Manager Rail has won the prestigious Best Energy Manager Award at the recent Sustainable Ireland Awards 2010. Mal was at the awards with his energy team Philip Reid, Energy Engineer; Paul Slaney, Engineering Technical Manager and David Lowry, Technical Engineer. The award recognises Translink’s efforts in achieving energy savings within the company through the introduction of energy initiatives, best practice programmes and targeted energy management strategies.

At the same awards, Translink was also shortlisted for the Energy Efficiency Award, for demonstrating high levels of cost reduction within our corporate energy levels through the implementation of energy saving policies and programmes.

‘Metro Fridays’ - Best Marketing Campaign at the recent Chartered Institute of Marketing Awards

Carol Marsden, Brand Manager Bus and Norman Maynes, Head of Business Development celebrated ‘Metro Fridays’ success at winning ‘Best Marketing Campaign’ at the recent Chartered Institute of Marketing Awards.

Metro Fridays encourages car users in Belfast to try Metro on Fridays by offering promotional fares and a range of exclusive deals and discounts with City Centre partners.

Business in the Community - Award for Tackling Climate Change - 10 June 2010

Translink has won a top award for helping to tackle climate change. Awarded by Business in the Community, these awards are Northern Ireland’s most influential and well respected corporate responsibility awards. This prestigious Climate Change award was given for the innovative and sustainable action we have taken towards reducing our own carbon footprint.

TIDY Translink Awards - TIDY Northern Ireland - March 2010

Downpatrick Buscentre and Jordanstown Railway Station were presented with the Platinum TIDY Translink Award by TIDY Northern Ireland for achieving a 100% mark in the Awards assessment.
