Translink ‘all aboard’ for City of Culture!

Translink, the main provider of public transport services across Northern Ireland has been unveiled as the latest sponsor to ‘come on board’ with Culture Company 2013, for Derry~Londonderry’s year as UK City of Culture.

Translink is the Public Transport Partner for 2013, an essential partnership for Derry~Londonderry given the number of visitors who will travel to and around the city throughout the year.

Welcoming the new partnership, Shona McCarthy, Chief Executive of Culture Company 2013 commented:

“Now that the curtain has been raised on Derry~Londonderry’s year in the limelight as UK City of Culture we are delighted that Translink has become our public transport partner. With over 1 million visitors expected to participate in our fantastic programme of events it is a very fitting relationship and we look forward to working with Translink in the year ahead. This new initiative gives us the opportunity to engage with audiences not just in Northern Ireland, but throughout the island of Ireland.”

Translink launched their support of City of Culture by providing transport for over 150 senior citizens from across Derry~Londonderry to attend the Afternoon Tea Dance, the first event to take place at The Venue, the much anticipated flagship venue for 2013. 

In addition to significant PR and marketing support, the company will also support a range of events across the City of Culture programme throughout the year with provision of transport for artists, schools and community groups, including The Return of Colm Cille, the National Youth Orchestra and the Turner Prize and will supply vintage Translink buses to use as exhibition spaces for BT Portrait of a City.
