Accommodation for wheelchair users

There is an area specifically designed to meet the needs of wheelchair using customers, and their travelling companions, on each new train. Its location is indicated by a large wheelchair symbol on the exterior of the train.

There is wider access into this area from the vestibule. There are belt restraint mechanisms for two wheelchairs (use of these is discretionary), with safety catches to secure the wheelchair user during the journey. Two special fold-down tables can be lowered as required. Seating is provided for use by people travelling with a wheelchair user.

In this area there are four handrails fixed to the sidewalls and another one fixed to the exterior of the WC module wall. There are also two 'call for aid' devices.

The second toilet facility provides disabled access. It is available for all to use, and is not just for wheelchair users or parents with children. This facility has a wide, automatic-opening door that is operated by a push button, located at a height accessible to a wheelchair user.

A second button is pressed to lock the door. When locked an additional light comes on. There is also an audible voice prompt to remind users to lock the door. Within, the facility is spacious enough to accommodate a carer when needed.
