Translink is committed to being a good neighbour, concerned for and caring about the community and the environment, and targeting social need. Translink also believes that quality public transport enriches the life of the community.
1. Translink were delighted to team up with Help the Aged to promote SeniorLine advice, information and advocacy service to more older people across Northern Ireland. SeniorLine is the Help the Aged freephone advice service for older people, their relatives, carers and friends dealing with various enquires including transport.
2. Translink were proud to be part of the ‘Tales on the Rails’ event which ran in conjunction with the annual Ulster Storytelling Festival. Cliodhna Fitzpatrick and Eamon Kendall of St. Malachy’s Primary School in Belfast enjoyed a fascinating tale by storyteller Jack Lynch whilst waiting at Central Station.
3. Ulsterbus sponsored ‘Picnic in the Park’ as part of the ‘Larne Alive’ Summer Festival by providing free transport to Carnfunnock Country Park.
4. Translink were delighted to sponsor the fifth annual Ulster in Bloom Schools’ art competition. For this years competition, key stage three pupils across Northern Ireland were invited to develop their own artistic creations, which adhered to the Oriental theme, while illustrating the environmental messages of Ulster in Bloom.
Four budding young artists out-drew, painted, printed, glued and stuck the competition from 20 shortlisted entries drawn from a record number of submissions, to win each of their categories.
5. NI Railways Andrew Morrissey and Ian McAdam were delighted to welcome a group of young people from Chernobyl to Central Station. The children, staying with host families, were on holiday in Northern Ireland.
Many of the group had never been on a train and they were very excited! The children come from an area still devastated by high levels of nuclear radiation resulting from the explosion at the nuclear power plant in Chernobyl in 1986.
6. Translink were the Official Partner of the Special Olympics which took place in Belfast last summer. Athletes from all over Ireland traveled to Belfast to compete. Translink provided travel passes for all official volunteers during the games.
