Passengers in the Coleraine area are the first to benefit from improvements to local bus services following the completion of the first Ulsterbus Strategic Review.
The enhancements to local services where designed to improve service across a range of functions; including improved frequency, punctuality and accessibility. The purpose was to provide a local network of easy to use services specifically developed for local passengers.
The changes where implemented in April 2006, with focus on the Coleraine Town services, The Triangle area (Coleraine- Portrush- Portstewart), local county services and Goldline Express services.
The key changes include simpflied routes, accessible low floor buses at regular intervals, improved connections with other Ulsterbus, Goldline and Rail services, and easy to understand clock face timetabled local town services i.e. triangle services between Coleraine, Portstewart and Portrush.
In addition to local developments, Translink have also improved key county services from Coleraine to Ballycastle, Ballymoney and Bushmills tailoring timetables to cater better for customers’ needs and enhancing frequency. A new Town Service has also been introduced in Ballycastle significantly improving accessibility for rural passengers by providing vital, reliable and affordable public transport.
Further improvements to services in the Coleraine area include an additional six Goldline Express coaches which have been added to the fleet as part of Translink’s £50 million investment in buses. From 24th of April 2006, a number of services including the Goldline service 218 from Coleraine to Belfast will arrive and depart from the Europa Buscentre as opposed to Laganside Buscentre. This will enable us to offer better connections for through travel by coach and rail throughout Northern Ireland and cross border. Additional Goldline services have been added to the timetable to also commence 24th April 2006.
A modern blue and grey livery has been developed and is already in use on the new vehicles operating on the Town Services. This review has also included improved passenger information including simple easy to use colour-coded route maps.
Finally, the bus stop infrastructure is also being reviewed with a view to providing new modern bus stops and improved passenger information. Full timetable details are now available through the online journey planner.
