Big Start with Translink

Northern Ireland will host the opening stages of the Giro d’Italia in 2014. This annual multiple stage bicycle race is primarily held in Italy and along with the Tour de France and Vuelta a España, the Giro makes up cycling’s prestigious, three week-long Grand Tours. The Grande Partenza or ‘Big Start’ of the Giro d’Italia will take place over three days from 9 - 11 May 2014 and involves routes in Belfast, the Causeway Coast and Armagh before moving on to Dublin.  Over 200 of the top professional cyclists from across the globe will be in Northern Ireland to take part and there will be a supporting programme of events and activities.

Getting to the Giro d'Italia by Rail, Bus and Park & Ride
Translink will offer enhanced rail, bus and coach services and Park and Ride facilities to get visitors to and from the events in the various locations. Due to road closures, please allow extra time for your journey. Some timetable changes and diversions to bus services will be required in areas affected by the event.

Belfast City Hall
Translink will operate additional capacity on rail and bus services from 8.30pm to get people home following the event at Belfast City Hall. The hours of operation at existing Park & Ride facilities at Cairnshill, Black's Road and Sprucefield will be extended with the last bus departing the city centre at 9.30pm.
