Two key elements of the work will be carried out on the Upper Newtownards Road & Knock Road between June and September 2017.

  • A lane closure is in place on the Upper Newtownards Road (country bound) for 12 weeks between Ormiston Park and the junction with Hawthornden Way (to 31st August 2017).
  • A lane closure is also in place on Knock Road (heading towards the Castlereagh Road) for 8 weeks between the Kings Road and the Comber Greenway (to Friday 28th July 2017).

Traffic delays are expected and motorists should allow extra time for their journey or consider using an alternative route where possible.

Kennedy Way Roundabout, West Belfast

Works to replace the roundabout at Kennedy Way in West Belfast with a new signalised junction as part of the Belfast Rapid Transit project will begin at the start of July.

Some preparatory work is already underway, with the main works due to begin over the weekend of 1st July when the roundabout will be completely closed from 19:00 on Saturday 1st to 13:00 on Sunday 2nd. Access to properties on the roads approaching the roundabout will be maintained and signage will be erected at appropriate advance locations advising of the closure and directing traffic on alternative routes.

From Monday 3 July to the end of August the temporary roundabout and the approaches to it will, where necessary, be restricted to a single lane of traffic in each direction.Work and ongoing traffic management arrangements have been carefully programmed over the summer months in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public, however motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.

This work and the ongoing work on the Falls Road/Andersonstown Road are part of the Executive’s flagship Belfast Rapid Transit project which will be fully operational from September 2018.

Ulsterbus Service 18 Disruption - Drumaroad

Phoenix Gas works will take place in Drumaroad Village from Monday 15th May – Friday 23rd June inclusive **(updated 12/6).

Phoenix Gas works will now move to Drumaroad Village from Monday 15th May – Friday 23rd June inclusive.
All children who would normally have boarded their school bus at Drumaroad for Ballynahinch, Belfast, Newcastle etc will now have to make their way to the junction of Drumaroad Hill/Carnreagh Road/Dunturk Road.

All Ulsterbus 18 services and school buses will now operate from Castlewellan along the B175 turning left into Carnreagh Road (Road just before Chapel Lane which leads to Drumaroad) and proceed to the junction of Dunmore Road where they will turn right and then continue to its junction with Edendarriff Road and continue along the normal service 18 route into Ballynahinch.

**From Monday 19th June Phoenix Gas will be closing the section of road between Ballylough Road, with its junction of the Drumnaquoile Road to Ballywillwill Road for the next stage of their works.  We will not be able to service the Ballylough road during this time.  All school children and customers will therefore need to make their way to meet the school and service buses at either Annsborough Village or Aughlisnafin X Rds.

The new school and service route from Monday 19th June will be Castlewellan-Drumcaw Road- Carnreagh Road- Dunmore Road-Spa-Ballynahinch.  Return journey will be in this in reverse.

Schools have been advised to contact all their children of this change of bus route from next Monday?  I am conscious of the fact that there is a GCSE exam on that date and those children will especially need to be informed of this new bus route.

The following school buses however will not be affected with this new road closure:-
• Shimna College
• St Malachy’s High School

Phoenix Gas will be carrying out works relaying gas pipes in and around Ballynahinch from Monday 8th May 2017 until end of week commencing 30th October 2017.

The works will be done under lane closures and traffic lights; so no diversions will be required, but the works will cause major disruption and delays to all services operating within Ballynahinch town centre.

For further information please call the Translink Contact Centre on (028) 90 66 66 30.

Due to demolition and rebuilding work associated with the new University of Ulster building at York Street it will be necessary to suspend the first stop in York Street for 30 months from 09:30 on Friday 9th October 2015.

All services Metro and Ulsterbus will all be relocated to the 2nd stop  near Frederick Street. The inner lane will be taken out to be used as a covered walkway for pedestrians as there will be a hoarding the length of the footpath from Donegall Street to Frederick Street for the duration of the work.
