Making Waves at Foyle Maritime

06 July 2016

Make waves with Translink travel to Foyle Maritime Festival

Translink and Derry City & Strabane District Council are encouraging visitors to the Foyle Maritime Festival, July 9 – 17, to travel by public transport and enjoy discount travel tickets for fun family adventure this summer.

The city’s Queens Quay will be transformed into an international marina filled with entertainment including live music, street theatre, the Walled City Market, Continental Market, animation and plenty of surprises! Ebrington Plaza will host the Clipper Race Kitchen Food Village featuring a tantalising array of delicious local food with cookery demonstrations and food tasting.

On July 15 & 16, the Festival will host the breath-taking Clipper Race 2015/16 stopover at the end of their Round the World Journey.

Translink’s Alan Young says using public transport will be a hassle-free way to soak up all the action: “This summer, we’ve a wide range of discount bus, coach and train tickets available to bring visitors to Foyle to enjoy the maritime festival and get home safely after a great day out.

“Our 212 coach service offers a fast, frequent and comfortable service to and from the city. You could also hop on the train for a scenic and relaxing journey to the North West.  Once in the city, get on board our convenient Foyle City Services and let the bus take you on a journey of exploration through the city streets.

“Our Family and Friends Ticket offers unlimited bus and train day travel throughout Northern Ireland for up to 2 adults and 4 children for just £22 – perfect for a family adventure. You can also enjoy a third-off NI Railways day return journeys after 9.30am, or a £9 bus rambler ticket for unlimited Translink bus and coach travel after 9.15am. And we’ve launched a new £7 Sunday Day Tracker rail ticket offering unlimited all day travel on scheduled train services across Northern Ireland on Sundays.

“To plan your journey and select your best value ticket simply click www.translink.co.uk/foylemaritime/ or call 90 66 66 30,” said Alan.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Hilary McClintock, said the festival is a fantastic showcase event for the city. “I am delighted to see Translink offering such great deals throughout the Foyle Maritime Festival for what will undoubtedly be the highlight event of the summer. We’re anticipating great visitor numbers throughout the festival and due to the volume we would encourage people where possible to use public transport to reduce traffic congestion and ensure easy access to the main event areas.

“The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race offers a great global platform to showcase the North West and I’m really looking forward to welcoming visitors to our beautiful city for this spectacular celebration of our maritime heritage.”
