22 February 2016

Carrickfergus Bus Driver, Andrew Marshall was recently announced as ‘Translink Bus Driver of the Year’ at the Federation of Passenger Transport, Northern Ireland (FPT NI) Awards. FPT NI is the trade body promoting the use of public transport and represents the leading bus and coach operators across Northern Ireland.

The ‘Translink Bus Driver of the Year’ recognises top performing drivers who deliver high standards of customer service alongside high quality driving skills.

Translink Service Delivery Manager for Short Strand, Phillip Woods said:

“Andrew always delivers excellent customer service in a very challenging city centre environment and he is a very worthy winner of the award.

“Andrew is a true Ambassador for Translink. His positive attitude and commitment to carry out his role effectively does not go un-noticed as he is currently Metro’s most complimented driver!”

Translink also picked up the Raising Industry Standard award as well as two special Judge’s Awards.

Translink’s ‘Improving Safety Culture Programme’ scooped the Raising Industry Standard Award. The programme is an innovative initiative which saw 4 minibuses transformed by engineers into mobile classrooms to deliver a new safety course based on core fundamental safety principles and rules.

Metro driver Paul Doyle received a Special Award in recognition of his exceptional example of kindness towards the end of last year. The other Special Award was presented to Central and Southern area Staff from NI Railways for their crucial part in organising rail replacement bus services.

A Federation member commented on how Translink NI Railways staff are very professional and show total control anytime they are faced with a rapidly unfolding situation.

Translink Service Delivery Manager for Short Strand, Phillip Woods continued:

“The Special Recognition award highlights the importance of the bus and rail teams working together in order to keep our customers moving and minimise the disruption caused by rail line closures.

“Our staff go above and beyond to ensure the Federation’s members are made to feel welcome and appreciated. I want to congratulate all our winners – it is great to recognise our employees who excel in their role and deliver high standards of customer care.”
