Primary Schools get marathon fun run ready and creative to WIN with Tayto and Translink

7 December 2017

Now December has arrived and Christmas is officially just around the corner, why not fill those stockings with pencils, crayons and paint brushes!  It’s time to get creative with the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon!

The organisers of the event are offering all children aged 4-12 years across Northern Ireland the opportunity to enter the 2018 Fun Run Art Competition.

With over 1,500 people expected to participate in the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon “Fun Run” on Bank Holiday Monday 7th May, we need your help to design the 2018 certificate.

This year the artwork must feature;
Strap line “Move It 4 Mencap”
Runners and Landmarks of Belfast
Translink Bus, Tayto Crisps, Bottles of water
Elements of fun and enjoyment
2018
A4 Page Colour

Claire O’Neill, Event Manager with Belfast City Marathon is delighted to launch the Primary School competition with event sponsors Translink and Tayto, who are once again providing fantastic prizes for the winners;

“The competition is now entering its 6th year, and with over 5,000 designs collected I am overwhelmed by the support which we have received, especially from local primary schools.  Our event is a local competitive event which is organised to encourage people to lead a healthy life through exercise and diet, so we are delighted that this competition can help promote this with our young people.

Claire continued, “The standard of artwork which we receive is astonishing, as organisers it is very difficult for us to decide so we need the Public to help us. Five designs will be selected by a panel of judges then these will be shared on our Facebook page and partner website Belfast Live for the public to vote on their favourite.”

The design which receives the most votes will come in first place and will win the following;
Assist the Lord Mayor of Belfast and Chairman of Belfast City Marathon to officially start the race on Monday 7th May
Receive 5 free Fun Run entries for friends and family
Class trip to Tayto Castle with transport provided by Translink for 30 people*
*Terms and conditions apply

And for the four runners up? They’ll also receive a complimentary class trip to Tayto Castle, courtesy of Tayto and Translink for 30 people! *

Translink’s Communications Officer, Astrid Conville said:
“As the marathon’s official transport partner, Translink is pleased to be supporting the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon Primary School Artwork Competition once again this year.  Designing the Fun Run Certificate is a creative way for young people to think about the benefits of getting regular exercise by using active travel modes such as walking, cycling, bus and train.  It’s a great way to support your training for the 2018 event!”

Tayto Group PR Manager Robert WG Brown is delighted to support this years’ Primary School Art Competition to design the certificate for the Fun Run.

“We look forward to welcoming the winners and runners up to Tayto Castle next year with Mr Tayto making a very special guest appearance!”

Brother and sister Alfie and Izzy Taggart from Pond Park Primary School, Lisburn had the chance to meet the big man himself last week and were beyond delighted!
Are you like Alfie and Izzy with your pencils and art pads at the ready?

The competition is open NOW and all entries must arrive with us no later than Friday 26th January 2018 for your chance to win.
