WHAT IS THE ULSTERBUS STRATEGIC REVIEW?

Aim

The Ulsterbus Strategic Review is a major project which covers all the operational and delivery functions of Ulsterbus. The aim is to:

• Transform the effectiveness, efficiency and integration of Ulsterbus services
• Review and redesign the network
• Serve key market segments and aspirations of customers, stakeholders and public policy

The Ulsterbus Strategic Review provided the data required to:

• Develop plans for sustainable growth in passenger numbers in line with the Regional Transportation Strategy
• Redesign the Ulsterbus network to provide more attractive core services
• Plan changes that will maximise the use of all resources

• Modernise the route network
• Develop route networks on more commercial lines to deliver better services
• Generate growth in demand
• Secure funding for socially necessary, non-commercial support services
• Maximise opportunities provided by new flexible working agreement
• Invest in fleet and infrastructure, in accordance with network development objectives
• Establish ‘Quality Partnership’ with external agencies (eg Roads Service, local
councils)
• Implement appropriate integrated ticketing, fares, timetabling and marketing policies in accordance with network developments

MAGHERAFELT TOWN SERVICES

• Standardised modern route network designed to meet customer needs.
• Simplified clock face timetabling.
• Accessible low floor buses on all services
• New hourly Service 389A from 08.30 –17.30 Mon-Fri serving Leckagh, Highfield, Mid Ulster Hospital and the Bus Station, supported by the Rural
Transport Fund.
• New Maiden City Flyer connection: Service 389B to/fromMagherafelt Bus Station and Castledawson from 07.00– 18.00Mon-Fri, with through tickets available for the Maiden City Flyer service.
• Connects with services to Belfast
International Airport
• Promotional fare: £1.70 Day Ticket validity extended across entire Town

WHAT CHANGES ARE BEING MADE?

A timetable has been agreed for the complete reorganisation of all Ulsterbus services throughout Northern Ireland. This will involve the ‘grouping’ where possible of all services into particular categories, such as:

• Town services
• Inter Urban services
• Key County services
• Rural services
• School services

We have seen significant growth across local networks including Coleraine, Enniskillen, Dungannon, Newry and Armagh areas and most recently in Newtownards.We are confident that the local area plans are meeting performance and service delivery objectives and improved customer satisfaction.

COOKSTOWN LOCAL AREA

A review of Ulsterbus Inter-Urban services, County Key Routes and Goldline services brings improvements to services for Cookstown.

• Service 89 Magherafelt to Cookstown
• Service 91 Cookstown to Pomeroy
• Service 110 Cookstown –Magherafelt – Belfast.
• Connecting with Services 218 (Belfast-Coleraine), 219 (Belfast-Ballymena) & Service 109A to Belfast International Airport
• Service 112 Magherafelt to Draperstown
