Following the announcement of funding from the NI Assembly to purchase 20 new trains, NI Railways are asking the public what they want to see in new trains.

Ciaran Rogan, Translink’s Marketing Executive said, “This investment is great news for rail users in Northern Ireland and we have already started the procurement process. As part of putting together the specification for the new trains, we want to hear from the public what facilities and features they would like to see on board for passengers.  Of course we will also build on the experience gained with our C3K trains.”

“We are asking people their opinion on accessibility features, seating preferences and facilities such as space for wheel-chairs, buggies, luggage and bicycles. The views of both users and non users will be important at this early stage of the process.”

“These new trains will help increase capacity and will replace the older trains currently used on the Larne Line. Passenger numbers on N I Railways have grown by 40% since 2002 – it is a real success story.  More investment in our services will mean more growth and fewer cars on the roads as people make the easy choice to use the train.”

Copies of the survey are now available from main bus and rail stations, on request from the call centre on 028 90 66 66 30 or an on line version is available at www.translink.co.uk/consult.  Closing date for returns is 16th May 2008.
