The first citizen of Ballymena, Mayor Maurice Mills joined NI Railways Londonderry Line Route Manager Frank Moore today to view progress of work being carried out at Ballymena Rail Station.
The work is part of a £17 million investment package to upgrade stations and halts across the rail network, in order to deliver a better rail service for everyone. Key enhancements at Ballymena will include new seating, lighting, shelters, re-surfacing of platforms, a new passenger lift to platforms and accessible public toilets.
Overall, the work which is set to complete Autumn 2008 will deliver enhanced accessibility for disabled passengers and improve the environment and journey experience for all passengers.
Frank Moore, Route Manager commented on the work, It is a very exciting time for N I Railways; passenger numbers have grown by 40% since 2002 making it is a real success story.
We would like to thank the Mayor for taking this opportunity to visit Ballymena station and view the steps we are taking to upgrade our facilities, for the local community. We would also like to thank our passengers for their ongoing support during this project.
