Shortlist revealed for Translink Ulster in Bloom Schools’ Art competition

19 February 2008:

Translink are proud to announce the top 20 Hockney inspired young artists, who have been short-listed in the Ulster In Bloom Art Competition 2007/2008.

One winner and four runners up in each category, Special Education, Year 8,9,10 will be announced at a special awards presentation at Laganside Bus Centre on Thursday 10th April.

Lynda Shannon, Communications Manager for Translink commented, “With the competition in its seventh year, we had a fantastic number of entries from schools all across Northern Ireland. The standard this year has been extremely high, with lots of ‘budding’ young pop artists sure to ‘make a splash’ at the final presentation.

“The selection process was painstaking, but after much debate the final short-list was agreed with a wide range of Hockney inspired masterpieces from schools across Northern Ireland.”

Rita Duffy, local Belfast artist and head judge was on hand with her expertise to make sure the pieces that were chosen really reflected the Hockney brief. She commented, “It’s clear from the pieces we’ve short-listed how much time and effort was put in by both teachers and pupils, using a range of media with stunning effects.”

Short-listed pupils and their teachers will be invited to attend the awards ceremony in April where travel prizes will be awarded for the schools and the winning pupils. The winning entries will also be uploaded onto Translink’s website and exhibited at both Central Rail Station and Laganside Bus Centre.
