Larne and Derry line upgrade commences

6th February 2008:

NI Railways has just begun work to the Larne and Derry lines as part of a £17 million investment package to upgrade rail stations and halts across the rail network.

This work, due for completion in Autumn 2008, follows on from the work to upgrade stations and halts on the Bangor to Portadown line which is currently in the final stages of completion. These enhancements will include new seating, lighting, shelters and re-surfacing delivering improved accessibilities for disabled passengers and better journey experiences for all.

Translink’s General Manager for Rail Services, Mal McGreevy comments on the work and explains that every effort would be made to minimise disruption to stations, services and residents in surrounding areas.

“We have come a long way toward creating a more accessible and inclusive public transport system and are committed to continuing our programme of development. We would thank all our passengers and staff for their support and apologise in advance for any short-term inconvenience the work may cause.

Ultimately, our goal is to provide better facilities and services for all our passengers and we are positive that the improvements we are making will be welcomed by public transport users right across the province.”
